Loving our Enemys Monday,
|
ow can we love our enemy? There is only one way; to understand him. We have to understand why he is that way. How he has come to be like that. Why he does not see things the way that we do. Understanding a person brings us the power to love and accept him, and the moment we love and accept him, he ceases to be our enemy. To love our enemy is impossible because the moment we love him he is no longer our enemy.

Dear ,
When Gandhi said that Love is the force that can liberate. he meant we have to love our enemy; even if our enemy is cruel; even if he is crushing us. In terror and in injustice, we must love him. Taking the time and effort to learn why he is angry or afraid (always the case if he is attacking) will move us to a perspective of understanding, compassion and eventually love and forgiveness.
What we resist persists. It is a natural law of nature. If we attack something, anything, it will respond in like. I learned much about this concept during the nine years I spent as a telephone installer. I found that whenever I would have to enter a yard with an animal, if I communicated a sense of kindness, love and that I meant no harm, the animal would pretty much just leave me be. They watched closely, for sure, but they never showed aggressive behavior.
I like to go on long walks and when I encounter animals, or people for that matter, I use the same technique and never have a problem. And yet I see others walking with sticks etc. for protection. When they see an animal and raise the stick, guess what? The animal acts aggressively! It happens every time. And people will do the same. When we approach others with love and a willingness to understand, we create a whole new attitude in them, and our world becomes safer and more peaceful.
Make it a loving week
