Dorothy: “Why, you’re nothing but a great big coward!”
Lion: ” You’re right… I am a coward. I haven’t any courage at all. I even scare myself. Look at these circles under my eyes. Why I haven’t slept in weeks.”
Tin Man: “Why don’t you try counting sheep?”
Lion: “That doesn’t do any good … I’m afraid of ’em. My life has been simply unbearable.”
Lion sings: “Yeh, it’s sad, believe me, Missy When you’re born to be a sissy, without the vim and verve. But I could show my prowess… Be a lion not a mou-ess… If I only had the nerve.
I’m afraid there’s no denyin’ I’m just a dande-lion… A fate I don’t deserve, But I could be King of the forest…” (sob) “If I only had the nerve.”

Dear Hearts,
Sometimes courage is a gentle kind of attribute. We normally think of it in terms of major heroic rescues from fires, earthquakes, floods, etc. But often the greatest show of courage is the kind our Lion friend is showing us. The courage to be ourselves in spite of our supposed shortcomings. The courage to bring our true selves into a world that may well be expecting us to be something else. And perhaps the greatest courage of all, the courage to keep going even in the face of unfathomable hardship and loss.
Our journey through life may not be as dramatic as descending from a helicopter to rescue someone from a flood, but braving the shifting winds and turning tides of our daily lives can require more courage.
To all of you who are in the process of returning to and rebuilding a storm battered home, whether that home is on the Gulf Coast, elsewhere in the world, or a broken home in your heart, bless you. Keep going, storms always pass. You are a hero in the grandest sense of the word.
Love and blessings,
Rick and Patricia
