When beauty reveals herself… |
Dear Hearts, On Saturday we offered a labyrinth walk here at our ranch in celebration of the summer solstice. As it turns out it was the same day as the “Super Moon.” Above is a picture of that moon which I shot through the branches of a tree and overlaid with a photo of labyrinth walkers as they may appear if reflected in the moon. Walking a labyrinth seems a very simple thing, you simply enter at the beginning, walk through a marked pathway to the center and back out again on the same pathway. Even though a very simple process the results can be profound. Since we have this labyrinth on the property we offer several labyrinth walks per year and often hear people report of having amazing realizations or epiphanies during or after the walk. This Saturday’s walk would be no exception. A participant who has walked labyrinths many times before completed her experience of this walk with nothing particularly remarkable about it. She then came back up to the house, laid down on the grass beneath a tree in our front yard, and while gazing absently at the sky through the tree branches, “suddenly had a feeling of complete unity with the tree, the earth and the sky above!” —beauty had quietly slipped through the opened portals of her mind and heart revealing herself in a powerful way. Personally I have always felt that profound beauty is all around us. That the extraordinary is lying there just behind the ordinary quietly waiting to be discovered. All we need do to discover it is to slow down, get quiet, breathe, and let it come to us. As I was listening to this participant’s description of her experience, the poem below by David Wagoner came to mind, It made me wonder if perhaps the tree was an angel that brought this participant the awesome gift of unity. Hummmmm, what do you think?
May beauty reveal herself to you as you travel through the moments you your life. Love and blessings, Rick and Patricia P.S. If you would like you may take a virtual walk through our labyrinth guided by Ann McKirdy, the author of the poem she wrote immediately following a labyrinth walk on our ranch.
