The time will come
When with elation,
You will greet yourself arriving
At your own door, in your own mirror,
And each will smile at the other’s welcome,

And say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was yourself.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
To itself, to the stranger who has loved you

All your life, whom you ignored
For another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

The photographs, the desperate notes,
Peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Dear Hearts,

I picked up my journal yesterday morning (Jan 1, 2006) to write down some intentions, affirmations, goals, and resolutions for the new year but what showed up was this little poem:

Today is a new day
Today is a new week
Today is a new year
I am a new me?

No. No. I am still the old me.
Who is the old me? Your friend.
What does he want? Your love.
Where is he going? With you.

I guess the hint here is that there is a part of me that want’s to come out, be embraced, and play an active role on this adventure through life. A part that I have not recognized or accepted before.

So, my New Years resolution? Welcome me home, share old memories, and feast on life. Looks like 2006 promises to be a wonderful year!
